A Postdoctoral Research position is offered in the Millennium Nucleus on Social Development -DESOC and in the Center of Studies of Conflicts and Social Cohesion – COES.
DESOC and COES invites to apply for a postdoctoral research position aimed at producing cutting-edge scientific research. DESOC is a quantitative research center funded by the Undersecretary of Economy and Small Businesses is part of the network of centers of excellence of the Millennium Science Initiative and brings together researchers mainly from Education, Labor and Health areas, with an emphasis on gender gaps. This Nucleus incorporates researchers from Universidad de Chile, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Universidad Alberto Hurtado. DESOC is housed at Universidad de Chile.
COES develops collaborative research on issues related to social conflict and cohesion in Chile, through a multidisciplinary team from the social sciences and humanities. The Center is sponsored by Universidad de Chile and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and has as partners the Universidad Diego Portales (www.udp.cl) and the Universidad Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez. COES has FONDAP financing from the CONICYT programs.
DESOC and COES offer a postdoctoral position for researchers from social sciences disciplines such as psychology, economics, sociology, geography, political science and other related disciplines, with a clear interest in developing a research agenda linked to some of the areas of DESOC (health economics, mental health, and health in the elderly, health and gender inequality, financial education, vocational technical education, labor training, inequalities in human capital formation, educational choices, socio-emotional skill accumulation and gender gaps) and one of the four main research lines of COES (Socioeconomic dimensions of the Conflict, Group and individual interactions, Political and social dimensions of the conflict and cohesion and Geographies of conflict and social cohesion).
Applicants should have a clear interest in the topics of the research areas of DESOC and COES. In this call, the agendas on health, education, work and gender will be privileged, however, related research topics will also be considered. Similarly, we will privilege candidates with proven methodological strengths in data handling and analysis, with interest in ELSOC study topics and that elaborate proposals that allow to evaluate or design social policies.
Applicants must have a doctorate degree (obtained on a date not prior to May 2016) or expect to obtain it no later than May 2019. A dedication of 1/2 of a research day is expected at DESOC and 1/2 in COES. In the field of research, it is expected that the postdoctoral researcher will be inserted into the interdisciplinary work of DESOC and COES and that he / she will be able to publish at least one article for each year of execution of the postdoctoral research in indexed journals.
The payment will be made through a fee agreement for an amount of $1,800,000 Chilean pesos (approximately US $ 30,000 per year depending on the exchange rate). The postdoctoral position is for two years, but the renewal for the second year will be subject to compliance with the evaluation criteria and the commitments assumed.
The call will be open until March 19, 2019 and it is expected that the start of the position will be between May and August of the same year. The application requirements are: a letter of motivation (1 page), curriculum vitae, research proposal that brings together DESOC and COES areas (no more than two pages plus references in dialogue with the areas mentioned) and two letters of support that should be sent to mailto:comunicaciones@coes.cl under the subject «POSTDOC DESOC / COES 2019». Those who are selected in a first phase will be interviewed in person or by videoconference, after which it will be determined who will be awarded the contest. It is expected that the result of this call will be announced in late April or early May 2019.
