Periodista y licenciada en comunicaciones de la Universidad Diego Portales (UDP), MA en Comunicaciones, Medios y Estudios Culturales en el marco del programa Erasmus Mundus CoMundus de las universidades de Roskilde (Dinamarca) y Kassel (Alemania). Su investigación se centra en las posibilidades de integración y participación ciudadana a través de los medios sociales y TICs en Chile y América Latina, y las competencias aplicadas. Actualmente forma parte del equipo de investigación de Kids Online Chile.

Resumen / Abstract
This research will examine the uses of SNS to identify its potential in reinforcing social cohesion in Chile by encouraging citizen participation and inclusion among young people from different social context. The aim of this research is to observe and analyze social media usage and media literacy of young Chilean citizens from different socio?economical and educational backgrounds.
Having in mind that lack of inclusion and citizen participation are a threat to social cohesion, and that media literacy offers an opportunity to develop and encourage inclusion and citizen participation by using SNS in new citizen practices, this research will intend to establish a relationship between media literacy and social cohesion, by observing these new ways of association on online platforms. In this sense, even if this research focuses on Chile, it will provide some patterns of use applicable in future policy development in the Latin American region.
Some of the questions addressed by the research project will be: how are these platforms being used for civic participation purposes among the young Chilean citizens from different social context? Are they minimizing disparities and encouraging integration and inclusion among young users? In order to answer these questions, a multi-method approach and multi?source data collection strategy will be used, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. It will include surveys, media diaries, and interviews.
